bromoils and oils

Bromoil is a variation of oil printing

Basic Process:

  • develop conventional black and white print on a fibre based bromide paper
  • Bleach/Tan the print(1 part bleach-tan stock solution and 10 parts water at 65 to 70 degrees F), fix, wash and then dry. The image should almost disappear this is called the matrix
  •  soak the matrix for a few minutes and then remove all water from both sides of the matrix. Ink-up the print.

Tips:

  • leave about an inch around the edges for handling
  • start with a photo that isn't super harsh in contrast
  • make sure print is completely dry, ink wont adhere otherwise
